MDRC is excited to welcome Dr. Philip Oreopoulos, Professor of Economics and Public Policy at the University of Toronto, for a one-year appointment as a faculty fellow with the Center for Applied Behavioral Science at MDRC. Dr. Oreopoulos has implemented large-scale field experiments that produce evidence for public policy decisions. His current work focuses on education policy, particularly the application of behavioral economics to education and child development. He will work on several MDRC projects in higher education and human services and contribute to behavioral intervention designs and analysis decisions, including Finish Line: Graduation by Design and BIAS-Next Generation. Concurrently, he is also serving as a Russell Sage Scholar, where he will evaluate behavioral interventions designed to increase academic achievement among low-performing students at postsecondary institutions.

Dr. Oreopoulos received his Ph.D. from the University of California, at Berkeley, and his M.A. from the University of British Columbia. He is a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research and has held previous visiting appointments at Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is also Co-Chair of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab’s Education sector.
