Overview

Reforming developmental (remedial) education is one of the most pressing issues facing higher education. MDRC, in partnership with UNCF Institute for Capacity Building and the Strong Start to Finish network, is working with five Historically Black Colleges and Universities to provide customized support for developmental education reform. MDRC will work with institutions to explore their current college-level placement practices, adaptations to these practices to fit the needs of their students, and strategies for implementing and continually improving student placement. This work builds upon our in-depth research on the impact of multiple measures—shown to predict student success better than standardized test scores alone.
